From Cathy’s Desk
Time sure flies when you’re busy! And in the past year and a half, since I took on my role as K-TEK Solution’s president, new projects and opportunities have indeed kept us quite busy. I just looked back at where we’ve come in the past 12 months, and was surprised and pleased at how well things have gone.
First, we’ve more than tripled the amount of business we are doing since a year ago. In addition, we’ve grown our customer base – always a good thing when you’re a consulting organization. And while our focus remains on Autodesk-related Civil and Geospatial services, the breadth and depth of our service delivery within those niches has grown along with the business.
What does this mean for the next 12 months? Let me touch on three areas of business in particular…
Training – For many years, K-TEK has been acknowledged as a leader in technical training for end-users of Autodesk’s civil engineering products. Today, in addition to training end-users, K-TEK is developing and delivering training for sales and resellers. What’s more, we are now providing training for Autodesk’s geospatial products. And, we are currently developing curricula and materials for Autodesk Utility Design (AUD.)
Management consulting – K-TEK is also doing a substantial amount of new business with a focus on strategic and management consulting services. This goes beyond helping customers implement specific products; it involves defining a customer’s long term strategic goals, identifying the right products, services, standards, and tools necessary to meet those goals, and developing a staged implementation plan to achieve the desired results.
Content access – You all have said it – “I know it’s here somewhere”. In response to this question, K-TEK has been delivering a new service to customers involving something we call a “Content Access Toolkit”. We take new or existing content – training materials, customer surveys, CAD standards, process documentation, and so forth – package it in a usable fashion, and deliver it within a flexible and extensible browser-based interface. Customers save time, training costs are reduced, and the experience of finding what you need becomes easy.
As you can see, our business is not only expanding, but in new ways that are making a real difference to our customers! We look forward to working with you in the coming months and years! In the meantime, come and visit us at www.k-teksolutions.com, or better yet, visit us in person at our booth at Autodesk University.
K-TEK Continues to Expand Consulting Roster
The K-TEK consulting roster now exceeds 20 people. This includes four registered civil engineers, a registered surveyor, and two registered architects, numerous advanced degrees in engineering, and over 300 years of collective experience. Some names you mig ht recognize include:
-
Bill Rudiak, who many of you may know from his time at Autodesk Consulting. Bill has nearly 25 years of experience in a wide variety of solutions consulting engagements, with an emphasis on geospatial solutions.
-
Doug Howell’s 35 year career spans both field and office in a wide variety of engineering and land surveying projects both nationwide and internationally.
-
Mark Jacobson has nearly 25 years of experience developing highly complex software systems and software tools. Mark has as a history of success using a variety of technologies in diverse environments.
K-TEK’s Influence Felt at Autodesk Events
Autodesk’s annual Sales Camp and Tech Camp events both included considerable content developed by K-TEK. At Sales Camp, K-TEK helped with a number of the geospatial training sessions. This included Dan Leighton’s well-received delivery of the session on “Selling into Engineering and Construction Firms”. Several weeks later at Tech Camp, Cathy had an opportunity to talk with session attendees and get feedback on several of the Civil Engineering classes that were developed by K-TEK consultants.
Virtual Bench Expands
K-TEK has signed up two additional partners to our virtual bench program, including Synergis Technologies in Pennsylvania and Robotech CAD Solutions in New Jersey. The Virtual Bench program takes an innovative approach to allow K-TEK consultants to serve as an extension to a reseller’s services team.
Resellers who join the program can respond more quickly to the needs of their customers, and expand the range of services they can offer by leveraging the expertise on K-TEK’s consulting roster.
Project Highlight – AutoCAD Civil 3D and Sustainability
K-TEK just recently completed a project to develop training content for Autodesk resellers to understand how to apply AutoCAD Civil 3D to meet the requirements of the new LEED-ND (neighborhood development) standard, which is now in it’s pilot phase. This new LEED requirement emphasizes the “smart growth” aspects of development, including neighborhood density, proximity to transit, pedestrian- and bicycle-friendly design, and mixed use.
Because AutoCAD Civil 3D combines site design with geospatial tools, hydrologic features, slope analysis, and more, it is an ideal tool to perform many of the required steps to achieve LEED ND certification. K-TEK worked with Autodesk to identify where AutoCAD Civil 3D would be most applicable, and to develop demonstrations to help show AutoCAD in action to meet the requirements.
Visit K-TEK at Autodesk University
Once again K-TEK will have a booth at Autodesk University. This year we’ll be in booth #407 within the Geospatial area, emphasizing our expanded range of geospatial service offerings. Stop by to find out about our recent projects, or just to say hello to our ever-expanding team!
